My exciting art workshop "Welcome to Art School" is an incredibly useful and fun foundations class for beginner and intermediate students wanting to acquire VIP core fundamentals. This workshop is also the perfect class for intermediate painters who simply did not get this important core foundation information. This class can improve your work tremendously! 
Charcoal and newsprint,  then Gouache on paper. Intermediate Oil painters can use their own oils as medium
10-12 students, includes 7 hours of class, all art materials coffee, tea, water, and a delicious farm to table lunch both days,

Vanessa Rothe, Gallery owner, exhibition curator, Art museum lecturer, contributing editor for American Art Collector and American Fine art, who is also known for her helpful monthly column the 
"Art Industry Insider” published monthly in International Artist Magazine. With her 25 years of experience from all these aspects of the art world, she can help you make this big and exciting step, while having fun in the process.

Americans in Paris, Paris and Fontainebelau April 2024
​with Workshops in France!

The Americans in Paris fine art project began with a purpose to inspire contemporary American artists to travel to Paris and discover exciting new subjects for their works of art, in a place where historically so many important artists had found inspiration and formed connections. Following in the footsteps of the great American painters before them, such as Sargent, Whistler and Cassatt to name a few, a group of American realist and impressionist artists would travel to Paris to draw inspiration for their work from the city of light, architecture, cuisine, fashion and fine art. To attend museums, examine works by the masters, absorb the culture, share ideas and paint together with the goal of reaching the next level of mastery in their work.
In 2024 we present an art history and painting workshop and art retreat especially developed for our guests first 3 days in Paris learning at the museums, then residing in the Château south of Paris for 8 additional days.
Visit and learn from these contemporary painters: Quang Ho, C.W. Mundy, Adrienne Stein, and Vanessa Rothe. The program encompasses portraiture and figurative work, painting models in the environment, still life and landscape painting, slide show lectures about fine art and the influence of literature combined with an immersive program to experience the Fontainebleau area of France, the birthplace of the Barbizon school.

PRIVATE OR SMALL GROUP - ONGOING by APPOINTMENT at VR Atelier Laguna Beach

VR Atelier Private or Small Group Workshops.
Ongoing at 418 Ocean Ave. or at the artists home in
​Laguna Beach, CA

Private lesson or small group: In 2024 Beginning intermediate still life, or landscape with multiple short demo’s at her easel, both drawing tips and tricks and then review value/color block in’s.

For the Still LIfe class she will be Referring to her book “ The Art School Approach to Oils” (2012) Rothe will review of drawing objects with tips for success, discuss light and shadows, then discuss values in black and white, then move on to some color mixing in greys then how to mix and create volume on your still life objects with red, blue yellow white and black. A few composition concepts will also be covered. This is the CORE FUNDAMENTALS class that teaches you the very important basics that you can apply to and all of your subjects. We will be painting simple objects pitchers, fruits, cups and plates. 

For the landscape classes she will teach important block in methods, pre mixing techniques, values, atmospheric perspective and edge work. Students will work from photos given by the instructor, pre sent and loaded to phone or ipad.

Beginning and intermediate Drawing and painting sill life classes: Privates are $125 a lesson. Lessons last approx 1.5 hours

Small Group Workshops are often held at Rothe’s home studio with hard wood floors, a 180 panoramic view of Laguna Beach, where you will be surrounded by a realist and impressionist fine art collection and art history library.  Learn or review important classical art skills and improve your work with valuable art instruction. 
Weekend Group 2 day Workshop, min 4 students, $350 a person 9-4  Saturday and Sunday
or 1 day group workshop, min 4 students please, $200 each 9-4pm
