Richie Carter was born and raised in North West, Montana. Being brought up in a rural community, he has always had an affinity for the landscape. He obtained his Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Montana with a focus in painting. Amidst a lot of work-based travel, Richie resides and works from his Montana based studio.
"When I am not in my studio working on large scale still life and landscape paintings, you can find me out on location gathering reference materials, from the back country of Montana, to the deserts of the South West, or on the cobbled streets of various European cities. I love to travel and meet people of different cultures, taking inspiration from a myriad of sources. Painting is a universal visual language that breaks down barriers, and I hope through my own work, it can serve to cultivate authentic human connection. My goal is to make impactful, striking, yet simplistic images that evoke emotion and allow a dialogue to take place between the rich tradition of realism and the contemporary reality of our time." - Richie Carter
In 2017 Richie was invited by the gallery's artist Michelle Dunaway to join us in our Vanessa Rothe Fine Art project, Americans in Paris. Carter traveled with our group of 12 leading American realists and Impressionists, and although was already an established landscape painter, he watched and learned from the artists on the journey as well as gave his opinions on many fine art topics. Since this voyage, we have watched Carters work flourish and we are proud to present his work officially for sale at VRFA Gallery. We are looking forward to receiving more work from Carter soon.
